Don't Panic!

If you didn’t get a chance to play The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy text adventure on your computer in 1984, you can still do so today on your iPhone or iPod touch, which is basically the thing most like The Guide in modern existence.

  1. Download the game story file from the Interactive Fiction Database.
  2. Download Frotz from the iTunes App Store.
  3. Use Frotz’s File Transfer feature to copy the story file to your device. Unfortunately, this requires at least enough geek knowledge to use an FTP client, such as Cyberduck. It’s worth the trouble.
  4. Play a twenty-five year old computer game on your commute!

If that doesn’t work, you can also play it on the BBC website, with pictures.
